We Love Our Work
The best part of running our rescue is
beautiful birds and reptiles. It makes us
happy to know that each and every one
that comes into our home goes to a family
post these comments for the families that
for some reason had to give up their pet to
us. We like to show them the progress
they have made with us and inform them
of the new adoptive parents when possible.
Jo, thanks so much for the update on Houdini, Ruby and Magellan. I forgot to
mention that Houdini LOVES spaghetti and will get in your plate beak first
andfeet first if it is on the table. Ruby does tend to be a bit quiet when "new"
things happen and Magellan is definitely an explorer, he may be missing Petey -
the Quaker, they used to clean each other. I thank you again for your kindness
and willingness to take on 3 birds sight unseen. They are definitely in a better
environment - it was so peaceful in your home and the love you and your
children showed my "babies" gave me peace knowing I had finally done the
right thing for them and found the best place for them.
As my husband said, you and your family are truly special people. I'm glad we
met.

Hi Jo
2/15/2010
We have been meaning to send you some pictures of our girl and an update of
how she's doing for months now. I'm sorry I didn't send these sooner. Zeeza is
doing very well and we just Love her . She has definitely bonded to Jim She is
his "little one" She is so playful and frisky very talkative and sings to herself .
She loves playing with all her toys We have had her wings clipped so she is
dependant on us but she does fly and glide down to the floor She will still not
step up on our hands yet but comes up on our arms And she will sit on Jim's
shoulder very contentedly for a long time.We are patient and she will come
around at her own pace. Our house is once again a Happy Place She has
brought us such joy
She makes me smile all the time I love to just watch her play I hope you enjoy
these pictures We have so many of her it was hard to decide which ones to send
you\We cant thank you enough
Best Regards
Jim, Donna and Zeeza Liamis
Hello Jo,

Kiko is doing fantastic and has wonderfully adjusted with our family. He
always steps up for me, and has even stepped up for my two daughters. He
LOVES chasing the dogs around the floor and trying to catch their tails and has
dominated over all of our other animals! Kiko gives out kisses to all the ladies on
a regular basis and always wolf-whistles. He likes to explore the floor;
especially my closet where he shreds my work papers, and sticks his head
behind the couch to hear his voice echo. My husband loves to watch Kiko and
observe his crazy antics, even though they have a hands-off relationship. Kiko
has expanded his vocabulary!!! The funniest thing: he has learned to mimic my
dog's begging whine, my two daughter's shreiks, and he says "hello" in my
daughter's exact tone. He sings, talks, whistles and we've started teaching him
to play more. Shredding is his "thing". He sits on the couch and tears strips of
newpaper and scatters, organizes, and tosses the shreds all over; he really
enjoys it. He's adjusted great and is a perfect fit for us. Thank you for such a
great bird!

I am a young woman with autism and i have a macaw named Sarge. He is a
joy and loves me dearly and i him. He is my emotional support and i am his
friend. Keep doing what you are doing to help and (Sarge and a 'teal) four cats
and two dogs. They all are happy and healthy and i hope that these birds find
good homes.

Hi Ms. Jo
9/19/2008
I wanted to send a comment and hopefully you can post this on your website. I
was having major issues with my macaw nelson. Biting, screaming and
destroying my home. I called Ms. Jo to see if she could take him because I
could not do it anymore. She immediately heard the hesitation in my voice and
asked if we fixed the problem would I keep him. Absolutely. I love him. She
came over twice a week and I brought him to her once a week. After a month
of her working with him, I have to say I love my man more than ever. He is a
new bird or should I say back to his old self. Her techniques and explanations
of his behavior saved our relationship and saved me from making a big mistake
of letting him go. I can not thank you enough for offering me a solution to keep
him rather than relinquish him to you. The best part is when I have to work
long hours, I bring him to Ms. Jo's so he can spend the day playing with the
others at her rescue. You are forever in my dept.

Just wanted to let you know that Millie is thriving here. She loves showing off
her downy new feathers under her wings and little by little, the feathers on her
chest are growing back. It's the coolest thing with the outside of her wings -
they are all turning the beautiful yellow like she has underneath them and under
her tail! The tips are turning a beautiful yellow! I've never seen that in an
Umbrella before. Molly has since started sleeping in bed with Millie and me at
night. Millie snuggles under the covers and Molly sits on my pillow. Add to that
the two dogs, a couple of the cats and it's a regular zoo! Good thing I've got a
king size bed! Thank you again so much for matching Millie up with me. She's
heaven sent and very much loved.

First of all I want to thank you very much for taking my beloved Phoenix in to
your home. I don’t think there is anyone else I would have felt more
comfortable leaving her with. How is she doing? How is she acting being
around all of those birds?

Just wanted to give you an update on Peaches. She is doing great. We snuggle.
She puts her cheek against mine and she will stay there for about 1 min. She is
awesome. I carry her around the house like a baby and she loves it. My
husband on the other hand, is still working with her, tonight was the first night
he got her to step up and he was able to put her in her cage. I think they will be
able to bond more now. My husband (Chris) is working locally for a couple of
weeks so he will be home more in the evenings. She is a member of our family.
My husband and I built a perch for her in our kitchen, so she can be with us
when we eat. She also loves to be with me when I cook. She knows she will
get samples. LOL I did take her to the vet. She got her nails trimmed but not
her wings yet. Dr. Davis said it will be another month or two for that. But all is
good. She is eating well. Dr. said "Very Health Parrot".
Thanks Again Jo,
Bev
Hi Jo,
Just wanted to say thanks and i was very happy with my adoption. I wanted

day. He has been playing all over is cage and around the house with the kids

you cover the cage or not. He didn't seem to like it at first then he had woken
my husband and i up because he was crying out so i came down and slept
downstairs but he was crying out cause my cat was near his cage. He will so
then i covered him so he couldn't see the cat ad he was fine after that. But he

Ms. Jo,
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to return my phone call asap and
helping me to understand what was going on with Chi Chi. I tried contacting
several rescues and stores and no one had the time for me or would even return
my calls. Your knowledge has really helped me understand her better and what
she needs. I took your advice about positive reinforcement and it has helped
dramatically. If you do not mind, i would love to call you from time to time and
see if maybe I can get anymore advice, if needed. I thank you for what you do
and keep up the good work.
God bless

Hi Jo
How is your whole bird kingdom and your family?Wouldn't doing absolutely
wonderful. I wouldn't give my girl Misfit up for anything. She is doing great
with everyone in the house. We love her so much and she knows it too. She says
her I I's and kisses and tells my dogs to "C'mon in."...when I whistle for them.
Too cute. She gets along with them too. She is almost at the point of sitting on
my black labs back for a ride. She already lays with him on the sofa and
snuggles. Personally I think he likes her clicking her beak cause he gets a rubby
from that. Its funny. As soon I get this camera thing figured out, I will send
some pictures. (might be more than you really want, but she is sooo cute) But I
just wanted to do an update for you now.
Again, our house is so glad to have her in it. She is wonderful. Sometimes she
cops an attitude toward new things, but we both look at each other as if we
know whats right to do.....usually I win tho and she is good with it then. I have
learned that cockatoos are definitely 3 year olds. (the temperament) But its all
good. I learned to work thru it. She is a good girl and she knows it....she knows
we all love her I I's so thats her ploy when she wants us and of course everyone
caves in....lolol
Melony (owner of Misfit-Umbrella Cockatoo)
Oh Jo, thank you so much!!!

After leaving your home we encountered an incredible storm on the way home
and a huge pine tree was struck by lightning and shut the route 70 down to a
crawl. We lost our Internet and just right now got it back so I wanted to email
you to find out how Peaches was doing. I am so happy to see she looks so
happy and at ease. She really is an awesome adaptable sweetie and as long as
she is with someone like you who will care for her as she deserves I am so
happy! I left feeling so good leaving her with you and I know she could not be
in better hands. I hope you and your family are doing well. We are have a lot of
financial issues and having one less parrot to feed does help. I cant thank you
enough for the peace of mind I have. There is no amount of money that can buy
that! Some people thought I was crazy not to just sell her and I thought you
have no clue as what loving an animal really is. We want them to be happy, for
their spirit to be at peace. I have worked with animals most of my life and I
certainly didn't choose this career for the money. Its an incredibly low paying
career. If I ever do get to a place where I don't need to work outside the home
I will do what you do. I have always wanted to be able to take unwanted
animals and parrots are not as popular to rescue as dogs and cats because a lot
of people are just not into birds.
I will be in touch to see how Peaches is doing. Thanks so much Jo! You are a
rarity!! A true angel!!!
Take care, Fondly, Joan

Hello. Thanks so much for having my family over on Sunday to let us meet you
and your birds. It was obvious that you have a passion for what you do and
that your birds are well cared for. It was also important to us to hear about the
screening that you do for the people interested in adopting. We would like to
know if you would be able to take our birds into your rescue. Despite our best
efforts, they are simply not getting the attention and tender loving care that they
deserve.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Dana
Jodi,
thank you so much for the pictures. I love to see her looking so happy! it looks
like her tail feathers are growing in again in the one picture. How is she doing
with feather picking? Has she had any of her nighttime screaming? I am so so
happy to see her with Tiki. Pictures like that really make me feel good and
reassure me that i did the right thing. When I walked away that i never thought i
would miss her screaming, but the house seems so empty without that. Walking
in from work is so weird now without hearing "hello" as soon as i walk in the
door. Thank you again and if you need anything at all, please let me know. Take
care and i will be in touch.

Jodi,
I am so happy that Gizzy is taking to Chicken so well, I was skeptical since she
has
never been around her own kind. I actually teared up again when I saw the
pictures ......That's wonderful. You're a really good person Jodi, what you do
for those parrots is remarkable. It does my heart good to see Gizzy fitting in so
well. I can hardly believe it, but the pictures say everything. I see my decision
was the very best Gizzy could have ever gotten, I'm so happy for her. Thank
you again Jodi, I truly enjoyed meeting you and your family. I hope you don't
mind if I email you from time to time to see how she's doing, I promise I won't
be a pest. Thank you again for helping make my decision on Gizzy's placement,
I don't believe she would have fit in anywhere else as she has right there, and
again bless you and do what you do. .
Hi Jo and Travis. Just wanted to let you know we really like your new website.
Cricket is really doing great. At first she was not playing with anything. She will
now play with any toy we put in her House. She will try about any fruit or
veggie we put in her bowls, just loves carrots! She is not a snuggle bunny or
anything but will let us clean her house and take her bowls and place them back
in without any trouble. We cover her at night and she is now fine with that too.
In my eyes she has come a long way in the short time we have had her.We
thank you so much for letting her come in our home. I will send you a better
picture of her to show. Please feel free to post all or part of this. You guys are
just great in doing what you do for all these guys and girls.

I wanted to say thank you for all your help with bubbles. I would like everyone
to know that these people do not only help rescue birds but they help you with
problems your own bird may have. I was ready to give my amazon up for
adoption but with their help and suggestions, we have been able to stop Bubbles
from screaming all the time. She worked with me over the phone for a few
weeks until we were able to find a solution that worked. Thank You so much
Lynn
Hi,
It feels so different in my house now without "bippy-dip" every couple
seconds:) Hope you had a good first night. I just wanted to write to let you
know how happy I am that Gully likes you guys I expected to drive away in
tears but I drove away happy as a clam...sad to have to let him go but happy
he's found new love. BTW the only fruit he likes is bananas
Kathy
Hi Jo,
Just a note to let you and Travis know it was a pleasure to meet both of you and
all your gorgeous reptiles. We cannot thank you both enough for helping us with
our darling Sam. I am so thrilled for him to have the home he deserves and the
care he needs which goes beyond my training, education and capabilities. I will
always be grateful for playing a small part in saving his life from goodness what
and always will be grateful to Sam for allowing me the honor to care for him if
only for a brief time. He is truly an amazing animal. We miss him. Thank you
both for everything! Please keep in touch I would love to see him and hear from
you both on his progress and happiness within his new family.

U r a wonderful lady and your husband is great with reptiles. I could see how
much he cares. I wrote to the website and told them how kind and
compassionate u both are and how I feel u r such an asset to the reptile rescue.
Please keep in touch and u know where I live, if ever u want to just come down
and have a cup of coffee and visit - u can meet my new dog - she is a Boxer 5
years old.. a rescue..Her owner went to a nursing home and died there..He is
such a sweet girl. Again, Jodi, thank
u so very much for all u have done.

Jo,
I just wanted to thank you so much for taken him into your rescue center. You
have been so helpful and kind in this difficult decision. I was so happy you
allowed us to be apart of the adoption process when you found him a good
home. It really eased our mind's to know he was adopted out to a good family
with great knowledge. No other rescues we talked to would allow us to stay in
contact and check up on him nor would they allow us to be apart of the adoption
to adopt him out. We are so thankful for you and the work you do.
Thank You and GOD BLESS
B.L and family
Taco is doing good. She is eating well. She really likes Dale she comes to me
